Delicious, mouthwatering food - hidden gems - to try in or around Ashburn, VA
Opa! Mezze Grill
This restaurant has been open for 13 years as of the time of this writing in March 2025. If you've been living in Ashburn and you haven't yet visited, it's time to give it a try! The owner's wife cook the Fasolada (Greek bean) soup in her kitchen, and his family works alongside him. Before I knew the soup was "homemade," I remarked to my husband that it tasted like my Nonna made it, as if I were sitting at her kitchen table. Turns out, I was right!

Inside Opa! Mezze Grill
Inside, that atmosphere is festive, inviting and takes you away to a place where you can image you really are in the Mediterranean. Fish nets draped on the wall and neatly set tables, as well as a bar, with turquoise blue arched wall alcoves make you feel relaxed and welcome. When asked what "Opa" means, the owner said it's a word that be used in many ways, even as an "oops!" but it generally means a feeling of celebration, like a "Cheers!" to celebrating and enjoying life.
The restaurant https://www.opamezzegrill.com/ is a multi-time winner of the Best of Loudoun award. In my humble opinion, this family owned, authentic Greek restaurant deserves your vote and a visit! (My review HERE)

Chateau de Chantilly Cafe
A gem tucked away, again, in a shopping center that's location belies it's enchanting atmosphere inside. If you're living in Ashburn, it's a 20 minute trip.

Highlights:
An ABUNDANCE of choices of pastries, coffees, tartes, and cakes - these pictures don't do justice to the vast assortment available
Upstairs and back of restaurant seating with a hip, in-the-know library feel - cozy for enjoying your selection of food and/or drink

Though this review is short and sweet, please don't miss out on visiting this gem in the middle of Chantilly. It will take you out of the every day norm and offer you a refreshing, breezy treat.

Carolina Bros Barbeque
Located in Old Ashburn, the part of town that is still preserved from before the building up of Ashburn (see my video about some of Ashburn and Carolina Bros history here) and next to the WO&D Trail, several things about this restaurant make it unique besides it's mouthwatering BBQ, brought from pigs in North Carolina (vegetarians may not find something at this restaurant, but meat eaters will appreciate the information about where the food is coming from).
Food, location, and history of Carolina Bros. BBQ So, reasons to check out Carolina Bros Barbeque
1. A unique part of history preserved.
So much of Ashburn has been built up or torn down. This building has been there since the beginning, almost, and is a special part of history.
2. WO&D adjacent location.
Whether you're using the trail or just dining, the atmosphere is happy and energetic, especially in the warmer months. Want to feel like you're in a place where everybody knows your name? This could be it, if you start talking to people! :D
3. Country store and pig-themed decor.
The restaurant sells wares from local vendors, like seasonal honey and jam, as well as branded merch and attire and other little treats. Also, the pig-themed decor will make you smile. Even if you're not currently living in Ashburn, it is a worth a drive!

Hear me out - if you're a local living in Ashburn or Northern Virginia, you already know Anita's and may be wondering why it's on this list: unlike the other choices on this list, this restaurant is not particularly unique nor family made at home - in fact, the food is made in a main kitchen and then reheated in its other locations. However, if you're not a local, you need to know about it! This is a tried and true staple for New Mexico style Mexican food if you want to take out of town guests for a simple meal, indulge in some enchiladas with the family, or enjoy a margarita with your chips and salsa, plus, the breakfast burritos are well-known to people who are from this area.

Note: if you want real El Salvadorean food from a mom and pop place, try Cerrito's Pupuseria in Chantilly. I recommend the brunch!
Hot Pot Legend
Located conveniently in One Loudoun, Hot Pot Legend is a unique dining experience for those living in Ashburn or visiting the town center. Private, cozy booths for your party and a stimulating atmosphere, diners cook their own food at their table via hot pots in the table that. You pick your broth(s) and foods (meat, vegetables, seafood), and take your time enjoying your meal, ordering more as you wish. Sides, sauces, and small desserts are self-serve, and there is also a full-service bar and waitstaff.
Since the restaurant is located in One Loudoun, you can see a movie, shop, or stroll the town center before or after your meal.
